Nowadays, there are many controversial arguments about homework at school. Some people think that children should not be given homework while others believe that they might be successful at school by getting homework every single day. This essay will discuss both advantages and disadvantages of giving homework.
To start with, homework could be a heavy burden on students. To be clear, after a hard-working day at school, learning various subjects in a day, children can be stressed because homework can limit their time to participate in entertainment activities such as playing sports, traveling around, and so on. Moreover, homework can lead to depression in children. In order to meet the deadline, they have to make a large number of efforts, as a result, there is no time for them to interact or connect with other people such as family members, friends, relatives, etc. If this situation continuously occurs for a long time, children are likely at risk of depression easier.
On the other hand, there are several positive points about giving homework. The first and foremost benefit is improving children's academic performance at school. In other words, when they are given homework after each lesson, they can get an opportunity to reinforce and practice the knowledge that they have obtained in the classroom each day. Then, it is easier for them to get higher scores on examinations. Furthermore, homework can develop a sense of responsibility among children. For example, when they need to meet the deadline of homework in order to not be punished by their teachers, they tend to finish their tasks before the next classes. Therefore, homework seems can create a responsible spirit for children.
All in all, everything has two sides, and so does homework. Although giving homework to children can bring some downsides, it also can affect effectively on children as well.
