People have various assumptions regarding the reason why we should learn a foreign language. Some people believe that the driving force of learning a foreign language are travelling and seeking for employment While others contend that these are not the private factors explaining why someone should acquire a foreign language. From my point of view, I agree with the latter view.
On the one hand, the need to be equipped with a foreign language when you go traveling or do your business in that country is crucial. There are various problems you have to tackle with when you visit a whole new country, which knowing the language there can help. In terms of direction, it reduces your chances of getting lost as you can easily grasp the road signs around you. Additionally, it helps to break the language barrier between you and the local people; therefore, you can take part in any traditional activities of that country such as dancing, playing the drum,... With a view to opening the door to better employment opportunities, learning a foreign language alleviates any misunderstanding and conflicts from customers as well as being able to communicate effectively with your colleagues.
On the other hand, there are a host of motives that people ought to learn a foreign language. First of all if gives you the opportunities to gain better access to the world knowledge. There exists valuable information which is only written in some certain language. In this way, people are capable of reading more preference materials and understanding the lifestyle of different nationalities. Secondly, it responds to the need of your interests. For example, you love that Cuba melody and be able to understand the song’s lyrics. You can easily stay up-to-date with the worlds’s news by reading some new national daily newspapers.
In my opinion, there are many purposes that we should acquire a foreign language.In this age of development, globalization is a trend which requires a person to be bilingual or multilingual in order to have an efficient communication skill. A foreign language boosts your confidence to start talking to a friend and widen the relationship with her.
In my conclusion, there are far many advantages of learning a foreign language than to travel or work in a foreign country.
