Hello everyoneEmotion: smile!

Yes, here I am again, with another idiom I have just read in another post..

What does it mean? Something like to laugh a lot? Is it similar to "to laught one's head off"?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You have it > to laugh until it hurts.
Hello Feebs11!Emotion: smile

Thanks for your reply! Hmm..can I ask another question? Can I use it with myself?
- I am spliting my sides laughing.

Thanks again!

You can. It would sound a little odd since you will be laughing so much you won't be able to speak.
Thanks for the correction, Feebs!Emotion: smile

Okay, I understand it now, I will try to avoid using it in the first person in a present tense.
And e.g. laughter can be "side-splitting", i.e. it causes your sides to split.

(Messy.)

Hello MrP!Emotion: smile

Sides are the things that ache when you have been lauging for a long time, right? Ah, if you "split your sides laughing", have you been laughing for a long time or you have been laughing very hard?

P.S: What does Mjuaju wa Ukumbi mean? Hmm..there was another thing written before, but, I forgot it! (Hehe, you don't have to answer if you don't want to)Emotion: stick out tongue
Well, I would take "to split your sides laughing" to imply laughter that was long and hearty.

"Sides" are the parts of the body that stretch from the underarm to the hip bone. So if you laugh excessively, there is a danger that the Intercostales externi will no longer be able to retain your inner organs. Your sides will "split", and your dry-cleaning bill will be horrendous.

(I have to admit, I find that excessive laughter affects the abdomen, rather than the sides. But there doesn't seem to be an idiom to describe the phenomenon.)

See you later,

I am not at liberty to say. Emotion: zip it
