What is a modifier? Did you mean an adjective?
Same general idea, yes, but "sport" or "sports" is a noun, not an adjective.
Both adjectives and nouns can modify nouns.
CJ
This is the difficult part.
Why don't we say "sporty event" or "sporty medicine" when "sporty" is the adjective,
At some point in the history of English, 'sporty' began to mean flashy, showy, colorful, fashionable, or stylish. That's how it's used now. It's typically used with cars and clothes, especially cars.
Found online:
a sporty midsize sedan, a sporty looking Porsche, a sporty compact SUV
cute sporty dresses, sporty golf clothing, a sporty short-sleeved shirt

I have doubt, seriously.
I think sports car is correct but not sporty car....
Both are possible with different meanings.
