Hello, teachers!

Are these all acceptable with the same meaning?

1. The baby is starting to resemble her mother.
2. The baby is resembling its mother (more and more).
3. The baby is looking like/after its mother (more and more).
4. The baby is getting more and more alike/similar to its mother.
5. The baby is having its mother's appearance.

Thank you very much.

Hi, Jandi,

No, they are not all equally acceptable. The four best choices in my opinion are as follows:

The baby is starting to resemble her mother.
The baby is resembling her mother more and more.
The baby is looking more and more like her mother.
The baby is getting more and more like her mother.

The following are not so good. In fact, I would not use these at all.

*The baby is resembling her mother.
*The baby is looking after her mother (more and more). ("looking after" = "taking care of")
* ... getting (more and more) alike to her mother.
* ... getting (more and more) similar to her mother.
* ... is having her mother's appearance.

Hope that helps!
