Buddhist-Accountant My try:

18. Most astronomers today agree that our planet never went through a molten period in A. its formation B. thus it's probable that huge reserves of hydrocarbon C. exists in D. the Earth's mantle.(exists)----- huge reserves (plural) of hydrocarbon exist.

19. Europe A. becomes the B. portable telephone capital of C. the world at the end of D. the twentieth century .(becomes) ---- read the end of the sentence,"at the end of the twentieth century". So, the tense should be past tense, became.

22. Part of Thomas Gold's theory depends on A. the fact that over vast B. regionals C. composed of many different land forms, with no two sediments the same D. the chemical signature of the petroleum seems identical.(regionals) ---The word should be "regions" there.

26. Late in the year 2000, A. futures analysts B. still predicted C. large increases in the price of crude to the delight of D. petroleum major companies.(petroleum major) ---- There are two mistakes, one is that A should be "future analysts" and the other one majot petroleum companies. Adjective should precede the noun.
27. The Titanic, while being the A. greatest shipwreck B. in history has C. also become a D. symbols of Man's hubris.(it should be "Symbol",isn't it ?) --- No, look at the article before symbol, you will see "a" so after "a" you can't use plural form. It should be "symbol."

28. Maria is A. much interested in B. improving her conversational C. skills in French D. than in learning English.(much ) ---There is a comparison here between being more interested in French than English so you should use "more" here insyead of "much" to indicate the comparison and prefer here.
29. A. The internal combustion engine B. invented at the end of the nineteenth century C. is over D. the hundred years old. ( the hundred years old) ---It should be "a hundred years old" not "the hundred years old."

31 The era of . A. oil explore B. began in Pennsylvania C. when oil was D. discovered on a small farm(i think it should be "Exploiting oil,Am i Right?) --- After the construction "the era of", you should use a noun so explore should be written as "exploration".

32.34. A. The progress of computers from the B. earliest work to the present has benefited from continuous improvements in C. materials, programming , and D. equipments .(it should be use hardware than equipment ,right ?) ----- After materials, noun, "programming " is written, ing form, and then a noun comes again ,equipments. There should be a parallelism in the sentence so programming should be "programmes".

36. Barge traffic, in France, A. debuted in the 19th century, has B. steadily decreased C. in favor of D. trucking firms(debuted) I couldn't find the mistake here. I will have a look later.

Thanx B.A

Hi,

one minor point:
Buddhist-AccountantCan You explain why this sentence is false
"George Bush is the president of Indonesia." >> This is a false statement. Although grammatically correct, it's not true (i.e. contrary to facts)
"George Bush is the president to the United States." >> Although it is true that George Bush is the president of the USA, this sentence is ungrammatical; in other words, it contains a grammatical mistake.

Your sentences are not false. Emotion: smile Each of them contains a grammatical mistake, so they are incorrect/ungrammatical.
Site Hint: Check out our list of pronunciation videos.
you meant it must be" Can do you explain why this sentence are false??"
Buddhist-Accountantyou meant it must be" Can do you explain why this sentence are false??"

No, They are not "false". Let's try another example.
  1. "America was discovered in 1980." >> This is false, because America was discovered many centuries earlier than that. However, it is grammatically correct because there are no grammar mistakes in the sentence.
  2. "Christopher Columbus was discovered America in 1492." >> It is true that Columbus arrived in America in 1492. However, the sentence is ungrammatical/incorrect, because it should be in the active form: Christopher Columbus was discovered America in 1492.
  3. "Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492" and "America was discovered by Columbus in 1492" are both true (Columbus arrived there in 1492) and grammatically correct (no mistakes).
Your question could have been written this way: "Can do you explain why this these sentences are false incorrect?"

PS: For everybody else who might read this post: I know that there is growing consensus over the fact that Columbus wasn't the first to arrive in America. It's just the first thing I could come up with. Emotion: stick out tongue
