Studies have proven that good sleep is very essential for proper working of the brain and body. Good sleep can help to memorize things better. Sleep of 8-9 hours is scientifically considered standard. Still it is stressed that student should not sleep more than 5-6 hours. Some say sleep as little as possible because the time you sleep is wasted and there is no difference between a sleeping person and dead one. It's correct the one who sleeps less will have more time than the one who sleeps properly. But what is the use of such more time when your brains are not fully working. Students need to use their brains a lot so I would suggest they should sleep for 8-9 hours. In the time when they are up they should utilize the time to its fullest level. What is your opinion?

I guess that's what Japanese workers say. I heard one guy even died because he worked too much. Some only sleep for three hours, and they don't even go home... they sleep in the office to save time. LOL, ok, maybe it's not so in general, but I was told it's not a joke, and it actually happens. Emotion: smile
I think we can't generalize that. Everybody has different needs. 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep is just perfect for me Talking of sleep...

Wow. They must either be paid a lot or are totally in love with their company. A bit of downshifting might do these people some good. Though this is probably another reason why the Japanese invent tons of time-saving and cool gadgets which make their lives so much comfortable and I guess in this case, 'so maximized'.

Not only students but all humans - living creatures - need to sleep well. The important thing is the REM sleep. There are experiments showing that if you are deprived of REM sleep, your cognitive abilities will show deficiency. It also affects the memory. There is no specific 8 hours or 5 hours sleep everyone should have - it is rather the fact that everyone should recover the REM sleep no matter what. For example, you may not sleep for 3 days, and then your sleep will consist of REM only. This way even if you sleep for let's say 10 hours because all of it will be REM, you will have no problem after you wake up.
Personally, usually I don't sleep more than 7 hours. I wish I can sleep more. I think sleeping more than 8 hours is perfect. Sleeping when you don't have work will not harm us. It will makes us more relax, comfortable and in a good mood.

Actually, you can consider too much sleep as a disease, a deadly one. It can weaken your heart, your immune system and what's worse an US study showed that a group sleeping eight hours were 12% more likely to die within the six year period covered by the study than those sleeping seven hours.

- I agree with you, principally with the last part

Better than sleep around 8 hours, is a good night of sleep. Before I begin to work, I sleep around 12+ hours a day. Nowadays I sleep 5, 6 hours a day and I feel better now, because I don't wake up in the middle of night, my sleep is continuous and I'm more active at day. The most difficult is sleep in weekends
