Hi

Would you please help me to understand the bold part? Does "gestate" mean 'to reach to the conclusion of...' in the context below? Thanks for your help.

What's holding back Iran's Green Movement? The challenges are unique to Iran, and as the country's people watch the Arab Spring sweep through around them, tactics have turned to embracing what's beautiful in life as a means of fighting the oppression. Can that country's movement ever gestate to the conclusion of true democracy? Sarah Ravani reports for Aslan Media.

I don't think 'gestate to the conclusion' is a very felicitous composition. I suppose the writer means 'make progress toward democracy'.

tactics have turned to embracing what's beautiful in life as a means of fighting the oppression.= The Green Movement has begun appreciating the environment (I guess from the group's name) as a way to oppose the regime. (I also guess that the writer is being somewhat sarcastic.)

Thank you, Mr. Micawber.

But I don't get it. What kind of environment is the Green Movement appreciating, and how would this appreciation affect the regime? Would you please help me? Thanks.

What kind of environment is the Green Movement appreciating,-- They are protecting the natural environment, practicing ecological awareness.

and how would this appreciation affect the regime? It wouldn't - that's why I think the statement is sarcastic.
Actually, Mr. Micawber, in this case, the name "Green Revolution" has nothing to do with environmentalism. Because Mir-Hossain Mousavi, the opposition candidate in the 2009 Iran presidential election, favored green as his political color, green was adopted early on as a symbol for the attempted revolution in Iran.
OK, I had just presumed. In that case, no sarcasm, but I have no idea what they think is beautiful in life.

Thank you, Mr Micawber, CSnyder.

What does the red part mean? Some groups use violence as a tactic to counter oppression. Please help me with this.

It's literal, or nearly so. They have decided to focus on what's beautiful in life, and this somehow fights the oppression. I don't know how it does, but that's what the author is saying.
