“I remember going out with one cute and funny guy. I thought, we could have a really fun eight months, but that’s eight months I’m taking away from finding Mr. Right.”

Can anyone tell me what the bold part mean in this context?

Thanks.

You remembered spending 8 months partying/playing/dating a cute and funny guy.

However, you have wasted the 8 month with that guy.

So, you have taken away 8 month of your life from finding the "Mr. Right" and allocated those 8 month with a guy you simply want to party with.

The tenses for the sentence are all mixed up, use simple past / past perfect / past continuous.

"I remembered going out with a cute and funny guy. I thought we could have a really fun eight months but that was eight months I was taking away from finding Mr. Right."

Mr. Right --> a perfect match / soul mate / great husband / someone you can spend your entire life with.
Thanks so much, Holyduke.

I get it!
