Hi

Would you say that 'a' is optional here?

  1. I'm going to take/have shower.
  2. I'm going to take/have a shower.

Thanks,

Tom

No.

Mr. Tomhave a shower.

Would be used in British English.

And in American English.

Mr. TomBut Google N-gram shows that 'take a shower' is far more popular than 'have a shower'.

Where in the world specifically?

Mr. Tomtake a shower

This is the American version. My comment applied only to the presence of "a". You can't omit "a" in either variety of English.

Another possibility is to say that I'm going to shower.
