Hi. I've learned at school that I need to say "The first one . . . . The second one . . . ." in cases like the following: "Two specific objectives were pursued. The first one was . . . . The second one was . . . .". But I've found many examples on the Internet in which people say only "The first was . . . . The second was . . . .". Is it correct? Thank you!!!

'One' is superfluous and relatively seldom used in that structure.
