Hey everyone
I badly need help with my disgustingly terrible thesis which is on the topic of THE ROLE OF Myrtle Wilson in Scott F.Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.

THis is what I have so far, please help, thanks a lot in advance.

In The Great Gatsby, by Scott F. Fitzgerald, Myrtle Wilson has a seemingly minor role; however, in addition to the murders of George Wilson and Jay Gatgsby incited by her death, she plays an unquestionably significant role in portraying brutal and hypocritical men of the 1920s through Tom, delineating those possessive of the delusion desire to be of higher social status, and finally, deprecating modern life and its characteristics such as adultery.

This seems a bit convoluted for a thesis...do you mean her death triggers a chain of events that lead to the death of the two men?

And what is the significance of her affair with Tom Buchanan in the story?

I don't remember much of the story. Perhaps others will be able to give you a hand.
Parsa,

That's a whopper of a first sentence, coming at a about 70 words. Wowzers. I think you need to break it up a bit into bite sized pieces.

Before you go much further, let me suggest you make an outline, in detail, of how you plan to layout your thesis. Then the sentences should fall into place much easier. But please concentrate on getting your outline done first. Then just quickly bash together your sentences to fit your outline. And then begin the revising process.

For what it is worth, there are lots of Gatsby essays on the Internet. Just try googling "essay gatsby role myrtle wilson" without the quotes. Be careful because the quality varies tremendously, and I am not recommending that you merely copy someone else's work. But you might wish to view a few essays to jumpstart your thinking with regard to your outline.

If it were me, I'd try to find a couple of essays that addressed my topic and then I would look to improve them.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Here's an "improved" version of my thesis and preview statement after going over it with my teacher. Please help me improve my thesis statement (what I should add, remove, reword, etc)
Thanks a lot..

Thesis and Preview Statement:

In The Great Gatsby, by Scott F. Fitzgerald, Myrtle Wilson has a seemingly minor role; however, in addition to the deaths of George Wilson and Jay Gatsby incited by her own death, she is significant in advancing Fitzgerald's theme of the portrayal of the 1920s. She plays an unquestionably vital role in reflecting hypocritical men through Tom, delineating the delusional desire for higher social status, and deprecating modern life and its characteristics such as adultery.
Parsa,

This is above my pay scale. I am going to ask MrPedantic or Mister Micawber to have a look at what you've written.

I am vaguely familiar with The Great Gatsby. My strengths do not include literary analysis. So I am not of much help to you.

Hello Parsa

I have slightly revised your thesis - let me know if it's not quite what you wanted:

In The Great Gatsby, by Scott F. Fitzgerald, Myrtle Wilson has a seemingly minor role; however, as well as indirectly causing the deaths of George Wilson and Jay Gatsby by her own death, she plays a significant part in Fitzgerald's portrayal of the 1920s. Her character also allows Fitzgerald to present male hypocrisy, through her relationship with Tom; to illustrate the delusory nature of the desire for higher social status; and to deprecate modern life, especially in its attitude towards adultery. From this we can see that her role is in fact not at all minor, but an essential part of the novel's structure.

I am also writing an essay on The Great Gatsby right now. I think your thesis sounds good, except for the end. I do not believe you are suppose to list your reasons in your thesis. What I changed, I put in bold This is what I think:

On the surface of F. Scott Fitzgerald's, novel The Great Gatsby, Myrtle Wilson has a seemingly minor role; however, in addition to the murders of George Wilson and Jay Gatsby, incited by her death, she plays an unquestionably significant role in portraying brutal and hypocritical men of the 1920's.
