If you are a native speaker of Greek or know really well you can't miss these spelling, just because you transcribe from the Greek alphabet into the Latin one since these words come from Greek: a few examples

It is, in fact, a mispronunciation. It has become so wide-spread that American society has become accepting of the mistake, but it is a mistake none the less. Prevalent in the South.
