Hello everyone,

I will appreciate it if you can explain to me what does "on the srength of" means in the following sentence.

It was very difficult to attend a Master's program at Leiden University, but my friend was accepted on the strength of ardent personal recommendations.

I cannot make up a sentence for "on goods terms with" and I couldn't find any explanation on the net either. I will behappy if you can explain it to me.

Thanks in advance. Emotion: smile

The recommendations were so good that they were "strong" enough to get her through the admissions process.

Even though the CEO is on good terms with most of the administrators, there are a few who don't like him. [get along]

This example is a little misleading.

I should probably add here that liking someone and getting along are not necessarily the same thing. I've have worked well with people (on good terms with them) whom I did not like and for whom I had very little respect.
I understand, thank you. Emotion: smile
