Many years before tragedy struck the campus of Virginia Tech, Professor Librescu had faced the horrors of the Holocaust--and survived. So perhaps when he heard gunshots outside his classroom on the morning of April 16, 2007, memories of violence prompted him to block the classroom door

To begin with, from which word is Tech abbreviated?

Second, which word can best replace prompted in the above context, incited, caused, inspired, or urged?.Thanks.

Hi,

Many years before tragedy struck the campus of Virginia Tech, Professor Librescu had faced the horrors of the Holocaust--and survived. So perhaps when he heard gunshots outside his classroom on the morning of April 16, 2007, memories of violence prompted him to block the classroom door

To begin with, from which word is Tech abbreviated? The full name is 'Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University'.

Second, which word can best replace prompted in the above context, incited, caused, inspired, or urged?. Of these choices, I'd say 'inspired'. But 'prompted' is better. Usually, you are 'inspired' by something good.

Professor Librescu was a man of great courage. We should remember his name.
