"The Most" Vs "The Most Times"?

Which one is correct?

1- Which country has won the FIFA Worldcup the most times?

1a- Which country has won the FIFA Worldcup the most?

2- Of all the cities I have been to, I have been to New York the most times.

2a- Of all the cities I have been to, I have been to New York the most.

Both are correct, but just about everybody says just 'the most'.

'the most times' seems unusual. It's better if you don't use it.
