Hello,

Would anyone tell me about my question?

I saw a following sentence in a textbook.

'Every morning, while reading the newspaper, the man would have two slices of toast and a cup of coffee.'

You see 'the newspaper' in the sentence.

I suppose 'a newspaper' is correct...

Is the original sentence is correct?

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Hiroshi
"I saw the following sentence..."

"The newspaper" is correct because the man obviously read a newspaper of the same name every morning. He may have read The New York Times or The Daily Telegraph, for instance. "A newspaper" is grammatically correct as well but it implies that the man's reading habits varied from day to day.

I see.

How to use an article is really difficult...

You've been very helpful.

Thank you for your advice.

Sincerely,

Hiroshi
