The line chart illustrates the proportion of people living in Australia with different nationalities in the period from 1976 to 2011.

Overall, what stands out from the graph is that while the percentage of people born in Asia and other countries increased, the opposite was true for the UK over the period shown. It also can be seen that the total population was a fluctuation, this figure had a steady drop in the first 25 years then significantly rose in the last 10 years.

Looking at the details, the total population of Australia saw a gradual decline from 22.5% to 21% in the period between 1979 and 2001. Over the following 10 years, the percentage of total people grew steadily to 25% by 2011. In 1976, the proportion of Asian people was just over 5%, then this figure went up considerably and reached a peak at 15% in 2011. During the first 30 years, the percentage of people living in Australia who were born other regions was fluctuation around 11% to 14%, the figure for other countries then went down to near 12.5% in the last 5 years.

By contrast, the figure of Australians came from the UK was in the opposite direction. In 1976, the people living in Australia who had UK nationalities was highest, around 14%. This figure went down to 10% in 1986 then gradual decline 5% during the final 10 years of the given period.
