First of all, I would like to thank you for your posts. They are always very helpful.

In one of my last posts, I may have expressed myself in a misleading way.

I just want to know if "The man pulled himself up on the banister" is wrong.

Thank you in advance.

It is not wrong in itself, but if you are trying to say that he used the banister to pull himself up, than it is wrong, and you need "by". With "on", he ends up on top of the rail. With "by" he ends up leaning on it.
