Hi

There's a moment when laughter turns to cackle, when the party balloons start to pop and you're the last person left standing and maybe you should have gone home an hour earlier. It's happened to me a few times.

--- Does it just mean that a few times he found himself in a wrong place at a wrong time?

Thanks

Not really. It means, literally, without context, he stayed at the party too long. He stayed to the point where the party wasn't fun anymore. There's a hint (last person left standing) that perhaps all the other guests had already gotten so drunk that they were falling on the floor -- and consequently not much fun to be around.

party may mean something else, metaphorically, in the larger context in which this sentence is found. I don't know that.

Hi Calif.

Actually it's about a singer who commited suicide. so I guess that party has a metaphorical meaning.

Maybe he was partying too much.
It's about him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Hutchence
