Hi,

Question:
1) Should I write is or was?
2) any words can replace "understood"? (it may be the best for my sentence).
3) for second half of the second sentence, should I use past or present tense?

Sentences:
I was the leader of a project 2 years ago.
This is / was important to me, because from this experience, I understood that I have good leadership skills.

The question 3 is hard because:
The experience happened in the past, but it is still important to me now.
I have good leadership skills now, but I had good leadership skills in the past as well and I started to know in the past.

Thanks

Use this:

I was a project leader two years ago. This was an important experience, because I learned that I have good leadership skills.

...This is important to me, because from this experience, I found that I had good leadership skills.

You had good leadership skills even at that time.

This is still important to you now.

If you say "this was important to me", someone may think that "that was only important to you in the past, and that is no longer important to you now".

You also use the word "realized" instead of "found".
