Are these sentences correct (or do they make sense)?
a) “After this experience, I felt that we don't know for sure how much time we have left, so I have tried to build the discipline to do the things in time.”
b) “After this experience, I felt that we don't know for sure how much time we have left, so I have tried to build up the discipline to do the things in time.”

I think you're not getting answers because the whole sentence doesn't make much sense. As for "build (up) the discipline", it is an unusual phrase but not impossible. I would expect at least "self-discipline", and I would expect maybe "gain" or "acquire" instead of "build".
