Transition is both a noun (a change from one state, subject, stage, condition, location, etc. to another) and an intransitive verb (to make a transition).

Sometime between 2008 and 2010, American patriot Chelsea Manning transitioned from one gender to another. It was likely a difficult transition.


Transitioning is the present participle of the verb transition.

In the pupal stage, a metamorphic insect is transitioning from the larval stage to adulthood.

I know nothing about transitioning from the government to the private sector, nor about transitioning from prison to parole.
