Christine Christiea) "A marine biologist once told me that we we shouldn't touch a wild dolphin since it could transmit diseases."

It is not the clearest sentence ever written. The antecedent of "it" is up for grabs.

Christine Christieb) "A marine biologist once told me that we we shouldn't touch a wild animal because of the risk of it transmiting diseases."

It would be "its transmitting", not "it", but the risk runs both ways.
