Hi

I am aware that uninhabitedness does not exist. BUT could you please help me complete this sentence?

(A house was finally inhabited after 7 years. The writer says:)

After seven long years of uninhabitedness, the house was finally filled with a big family, children running about...

Thanks,

Tom

Mr. Tomplease help me complete this sentence?

Now there's an open question if I've ever seen one. There have to be more than 1,000 answers. Here's one:

After seven long years of uninhabitedness, the house was finally filled with a big family, children running about, dogs yapping in every corner, parakeets flying everywhere, all giving the impression of total chaos.

Mr. Tom

Thank you, CJ. Am I to believe that you have no problem with the use of the word uninhabitedness in the given context?

No. I agree that 'uninhabitedness' is not a word.

However, I took your remark

I am aware that uninhabitedness does not exist. BUT could you please help me complete this sentence?

to mean we should just ignore that fact and help you finish the sentence.

I inferred that you would handle the problem of 'uninhabitedness' later and that the central point of your question was to finish the sentence.

CJ

I am grateful, CJ.

I must admit that my question was poorly worded. All I wanted to ask was about the use of uninhabitedness, even if the word did not exist. Let me try again please.

If some writer wrote this paragraph, would you feel the need to change the red 'word'. And what word/phrase would you replace it with?

After seven long years of uninhabitedness, the house was finally filled with a big family, children running about, dogs yapping in every corner, parakeets flying everywhere, all giving the impression of total chaos.

Tom

PS: Something like this?

The house was finally inhabited after seven years of being vacant.

Mr. TomThe house was finally inhabited after seven years of being vacant.

That's OK. You could also do some combination of the following.

After seven long years of [remaining / lying] [uninhabited / unoccupied / vacant / empty], the house ...

I'm partial to lying vacant.
