I noticed a type-o in a news article. The author spelled the word creek with three e's. When suggesting a correction, and indicating that there is an extra e, do I put quotations around the e? In fact, should I have put quotations around the letter e and the word creek in this post?! Thank you!

Example: (Me addressing the author of the news article) In the second paragraph, there is an extra "e" in "creek".

Is that correct?
