All,

Is it upto me to choose between the following -

(1) I took the test

(2) I have taken the test

Or there are situations when I should use 1 instead of 2?

Please help me out.

Thanks.

Hi,

Is it upto me to choose between the following Yes, depending on the way you are thinking of the event -

(1) I took the test You are thinking of the event just as a past event, at a point in the past.

eg I took the test in 1970.

(2) I have taken the test You are thinking of the test as relevant to the present situation.

eg Dad, I have taken my driving test. Can I borrow your car keys?

Or there are situations when I should use 1 instead of 2? As noted above. Ask if you need more explanation.
