Hi there,

Please could you help me with sentence:

"Having updated and accurate maps of land use aid regional planners to plan for the future."

The verb after "Having" should be "aid" or "aids"?

Thanks in advance

Having updated and accurate maps of land use aid / aids regional planners to plan for the future.

Clause subjects take singular agreement even if their object is an NP with a plural head like "maps".

Singular "is" is thus correct.

Incidentally, I find your sentence somewhat infelicitous since it is possible at first reading to mistakenly take "having" to be the perfect auxiliary and "updated" a past participial verb in a perfect tense verb phrase ("having updated ..."), whereas it is actually intended to be the secondary form (gerund-participial) of the verb "have", here expressing possession.
