Can you help me with my English task? I have to weite a semiformal letter to this subject: You contact a previous teacher about your choice of career. Your heart is set on theatrical studies but your parents disapprove of this choice for various reasons. Ask for his/hers advice. (2-3 paragraphs)

I have come up with this and wanted to ask, what should I add? It seems a bit "empty". I know there are mistakes in my letter, I would appreciate if you corrected them.

Dear Mrs. Smith,

I am writing to ask your advice on my choice of career.

I have always wanted to become an actor, but my parents disapprove my choice. They find an actor’s job to be unappreciated and think that it is not suitable for me. I, on the other hand, am very keen on joining theatrical studies at the University. I really don’t know what to do. I want to have a job that I appreciate, on the other hand I don’t want to upset my parents.

I would very much appreciate your advice on the issue.

Yours sincerely,
Hi,

I've made some changes.

Perhaps you could explain your love of acting in more detail for one paragraph (I love it / I only feel alive when I act / I'd do it even if they didn't pay me etc.) Then explain your parents' objections in more detail in another paragraph.

What about the possibility of becoming an actor even if your parents diapprove? How do you feel about that?

Your teacher might also want to know if you have had any real experience of acting already. How do you know you will like it or be good at it?

Best wishes, Clive

Dear Mrs. Smith,

I hope that you do not mind my contacting you after such a long time, and I hope that you remember me as your former student. I am writing to ask your advice on my choice of career.

I have always wanted to become an actor, but my parents disapprove of my choice. They find an actor’s job to be unappreciated and think that it is not suitable for me. I, on the other hand, am very keen on enrolling in theatrical studies at the University. I really do not know what to do. I want to have a job that I love but, on the other hand, I do not want to upset my parents.

I would very much appreciate your advice on the issue. Thank you for giving me your time.

Yours sincerely,

I'm happy to hear that you found the letter useful.

I hope you simply used it as a guide and didn't copy it word-for-word, though. (If you copied it and your teacher discovers that you did that, your A+ may suddenly turn into an F-...)
