Hi,

Could someone shed some light on the following phrase

We've chug-a-lugged ourselves into a rut (I think that a rut means a routine in this context but I don't understand the whole phrase)

This is from a song from a Canadian band.

Thanks

Your understanding of 'a rut' is correct. Chug-a-lug usually means to drink a lot of beer fast.

Thanks for that.
