Should it be an adjective and not the noun tourist?

I'd like to see some tourist sites and attractions.
This is a common construction (a noun modifying another noun). These are sites and attractions that tourists visit. They could be described as 'touristic'.

There seems to be some controversy about tourist vs. touristic when used as an adjective. Several dictionaries list touristic and define it generally as "for or relating to tourists".

I am an English teacher who teaches several Quebec Francophones in Canada. I often hear these people use touristic (touristique is often used in Quebec French people). However, I have never heard native North American speakers use it.

Perhaps others will prove me wrong.
