Delete the red part and remove the u in the second word.

They were all part of an inteconnected empire. When the empire fell, they were no longer interconnected. Each group was left on its planet unable to communicate with the others or get to them. They were not abandoned by anyone, they found themselves stranded.

"To strand" can indeed mean to abandon, but this "stranded" is not the verb. It is an adjectival participle.

I can't edit it now, I don't know why.

So this sentence "... left them stranded on diverse planets" more likely means that, they were left all alone on diverse planets ?

I believe that once you get a reply, you are locked out of changing things because it might make the reply nonsense.

So then why autor used word "left" if "stranded" means left alone itself. What's the purpose of adding this "left" in this sentence?

Xenon02 What's the purpose of adding this "left" in this sentence?

Oh. I see now that that's what you were asking all along. There is a similar expression in English "left high and dry", meaning basically the same thing. That "left" does not exactly mean "abandoned". It means something more like "rendered". They were placed in that state and would remain thus.

v. tr. 4. To cause or allow to be or remain in a specified state: left the lights on.
