When watching Hollywood movies on TV, I have easily found they use this words of " You know" in them.

Honestly, now I don't understand the exact meaning of "You know".

Sometimes it sounded to me as "do you know?", sometimes I felt it sounded something like "Hmm" caused for the moment of stopping talking an issue with others to find out more suitable words or different subjects when they wanted to continue to talk with.
And I usually felt like that they have used it as a meaning of "But or However" in order to want to change a present issue into another issue or to dramatically put out a reversal story.

Anyway, what I now want is to really want to use the words of "You know" when talking with my friends by English. In fact, I felt the expression could make my story more exciting and funny to my opponents if I can use it properly and very well.

Please help me with that matter. Thanks in advance.

'You know' is vastly overused and should be avoided at all costs.

If you want your listeners to confirm that they are understanding you, say (very occasionally) 'Do you know what I mean?' or 'Do you see what I'm getting at?'

The "filler" phrase "you know" was voted the second most annoying phrase in the US. The most annoying phrase, in first place, was "whatever." Don't get into the bad habit of using these "filler" words and phrases. They are meaningless.

Even more annoying is the slang version, You know what I’m sayin’?
