greetings people,

I came across this phrase while listening to "Life goes on" (by LeAnn Rimes) :

Baby, I would give till you wore it out
you left me lying a pool of doubt
and you're still thinking you're the Daddy Mac
you should've known better but you didn't and i can't go back.

I couldn't find its meaning from my Oxford Dictionary. Emotion: sad
  • but, I have found the meaning of Mac = (informal, chiefly N. Amer) a form of address for a man whose name is unknown to the speaker
  • still, I couldn't find the meaning of Daddy Mac (does it have the same meaning as "John Doe" ?)
Please, I'd be more than grateful for any of your asnwers. thanks in advance! Emotion: big smile

Regards,

"Mac Daddy" or Mack Daddy , is a term used to describe a man with an unusual power over women, and is derived from the French and later Louisiana Creole patois term "maqereau", which means "pimp". Adding "daddy" makes it mean "top pimp". The '70's black-exploitation movie "The Mack ", a dramatization of the life of a street pimp, furthered the popularity of the term in urban America. This use of "mac" is quite different from the Scottish/Gaelic term "mac" (son of) used to address an unknown man.

Freddy got five chicks on the south side alone… he 'da mac daddy!
