.It was more than 400ft high in a colonnaded court (courtyard - an area in the middle of a building, surrounded by the building's rooms. Colonnated means that columns were on the perphery of this area ) and was equipped with a hydraulic (Powered by fluid pressure) lift to raise fuel to the roof.

Its lantern (a light, usually fueled by oil, surrounded by a glass cage), probably magnified by a reflecting device, could be seen over a radius (the distance from the center of a circle to its edge - half the diameter) of 34 miles.
