You LIKED Dumbo?

Dumbo is a lot better than much of the other stuff Disney's turned out between major hits. I'd much rather have Dumbo than, say, Pocahontas or Hunchback. Emotion: stick out tongue
What about Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, & The Little Mermaid clasics all?

Yes, Yes, Undeservedly so but yes, and an emphatic HELL NO for ruining the whole *** POINT of the damn story in the FIRST PLACE.
Disney is a ho!

Maybe, but I'll forgive a lot for The Emperor's New Groove and Lilo and Stitch . Disney is more like Prince they both put out a lot of self-aggrandizing crap, but every now and then a gem of pure genius that's worth suffering all the other garbage. It'll be interesting to see how they'll survive now that they've laid off their entire 2D animation department, and they won't have Pixar to deliver hits for them anymore.
But still, they manage to put out some purely beautiful pieces despite all that.
"My friends must be punished." Still has me rolling in the aisles!

Come to think of it, there are already a million monkeys on a million typewriters, and Usenet is NOTHING like Shakespeare. Blair Houghton.
Interesting. Moving into ex-girlfrend territory, the father ... was surprised to find that they thought it was "stupid".

It seems to me that one of the most difficult things about growing old is the gradual disappearance of all ... have tried to persuade my children to buy *me* presents on their birthdays but they seem reluctant to do this.

I've not yet convinced my 'children' (in quotes because they'll be 26 and
40 this year - not exactly children) that they should buy me presents on mybirthday.

Er...my birthday party? In English, at least, there's no strictrequirement ... belated birthday party'. Unusual to have it a week before.

Many people have birthday parties a week before or a week after the actual date. For example, when my family has family parties, we often have them on the closest Saturday or Sunday (depending on when everyone is freeest);

I agree it's not uncommon to have a party up to 6 days before the actual date, but more than that would be presumably because of exceptional circumstances.

PS I suspect 'freeest' doesn't need quite so many e's.

Too stupid to know anything that Google can't spit out for you, eh?

This, from a person that a few posts ago asked "Who's Tenniel?"

Let's hope he's at least heard of The Captain.

They're currently working on the movie version of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'm a little nervous about that, particularly as I discovered that they've cast Mos Def as Ford Prefect(*), but then Adams had already made a deal with Disney before he died. And since every incarnation of H2G2 (radio show, TV series, computer game and books) has been different, and Adams had said that the movie version would be different again, maybe it won't be quite so bad.
I can't imagine H2G2 being a mega-hit, though.
(*) Nothing against Mos Def, I'm sure he'll be great. Just totally different from the way I normally picture Ford. I think I was just expecting the film to be like the TV series, but it's not supposed to be. I hope the purists remember that...

I haven't seen "freeest" since Conway said (in his usual way, not entirely seriously) he preferred it because "freest" suggested the pronunciation (fri:st). (Prof. John Horton Conway. This was in 1982 or '83, when he was a maths lecturer at Cambridge. ObBirthday: like Skitt's, his birthday is between Christmas and New Year: it's Boxing Day.)
