Hello everybody!

Which films and songs can you recommend for learning englisch?

In the last few days I have collected songs and tried to translate them. The most songs are very difficult to understand but the followings are quite usefull:

Suzanne Vega toms diner
Pink dear mr president
Fergie girls dont´t cry

Then I have tried watching films. First was STARSKY and HUTCH with Wilsons and Stillers. That didn´t work.
Do you have any tips for me?

Kind regards

Thomas

Hey Kathy Xia,

I love "24HOURS" with Kiefer Sutherland. I got all 5 dvd boxes and when SEASON 6 (german spoken) appears - I will buy it immediately.

But I am sure that it is zu difficult for me to understand the english version. Sometimes for me it is even necessary to watch a scene again to understand in my

native language.

Today I got the advice to try JAMES BOND.

At the moment I am learning english at an evening school called VHS. It is only 1 and a half hour a week. That is less and speaking comes to short.

greetings

Students: We have free audio pronunciation exercises.
I've used both audio and video in my classes.

I prefer to use older movies, because the pronunciation tends to be clearer, although some of the expressions may be out of date.

I sometimes use TV show episodes because they are shorter.

Music can be difficult, and once again, I think older songs tended to have clearer pronunciation and enunciation. Sinatra, Billy Joel and the Beatles are easier to learn English from than most current bands.

I'm still looking for the best examples to use, and tend to change my selection based on students' needs and interests.
Thomas-

When I learned German, I went to the movies every Friday, and saw children's movies, so I could focus on the language instead of the story. You could try that.
Hello Old Man Gordon,

thank you for communicate your impressions. I can follow your way teaching english.
But unfortunately I don´t like old music like Beatles and so on. Watching old movies is a method I will try.

Yesterday I switched through CAST AWAY with Tom Hanks and it worked. Clear pronunciation and enunciation.
Moreover Tom Hanks is most alone on his island!!!

Good evening

any thing could help, try classic first untill u can understand the fast talking in some Films or Songs..
Yes, you are right!
But to my mind the most important thing to do is - SPEAKING SPEAKING SPEAKING
maybe it´s just my opinion, but i think it doesn´t matter which movie you watch. i mean, it´s right that in older movies the pronunciation is mostly clearer, but i´d say that most english guys nowadays don´t mind to talk really slow and clear. so i´d recommend to watch just a whole lot of movies/series or whatever, so you can get used to the language. even if you don´t understand everything at the first time, you will do so later
