can-1 : verb - be able to
can-2 : noun - container (for preserving foods)
can-3 : verb - place in a can-2 (to preserve it)

I can-1 can-3 the can-2, but the can-2 can-1not can-3 me.

I am able to place the container into a container, but the container is not able to place me into a container.

A silly, nonsensical sentence, all in all.

(An alternate interpretation of can-2 is container for holding trash and/or garbage.)

I'll try.

1. I can (I am able to, I have the ability to)

2. can the (get rid of by putting it in the TRASHCAN or wastebasket) (I think this is the meaning here, but am not sure.)

3. can (metal container)

4. but the can (metal container)

5. can not (is not able to, does not have the ability to)

6. can me (get rid of me by putting me in a trashcan or wastebasket) (Again, I think this is the meaning, but am not positive.)

What a sentence!

Sometimes to "can" something also can mean to stop it.

Take a look at www.dictionary.com for some other slang for "can".

Hi guys,

Let me try.

1. I can can (I do a naughty French cabaret-style dance)

2. the can (the bathroom - ie I take over the bathroom with my dancing)

3. but the can (bathroom)

4. can not (is not able to, does not have the ability to - because bathrooms are not sentient beings. So actually, this is a deep philosophical thought on the nature of consciousness. Reminds me of the works of the philosopher Kant, although some might argue that Kant can't be accused of talking such cant.)

5. can me. (fire me. - although I should undoubtedly be fired for such inappropriate behaviour)

Best wishes, Clive
I wonder if it's a reference to the song by Suzi Quatro, which has the following chorus:

So make a stand for your man, honey
Try to can the can
Put your man in the can, honey
Get him while you can
Can the can
Can the can
If you can
Well can the can
MrP
I can can the can but the can can not make me = I can make the can (metal) but the can (metal) can't make me.

Here are two from an old thread.

1. Kevin while John had had had had had had had had had had had a better effect on the teacher.

Kevin, while John had had "had", had had "had had". "Had had" had had a better effect on the teacher.

2. Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo, buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo, buffalo buffalo buffalo.

The first clause means that buffalo from Buffalo (NY) buffalo all other buffalo in general, the second that all other buffalo buffalo buffalo from Buffalo, and the third that buffalo buffalo even themselves.
AlpheccaStarsThe first clause means that buffalo from Buffalo (NY) buffalo all other buffalo in general ...
And it can be extended to include the fourth (missing) permutation as well. Emotion: smile
