Boy: What are you doing anyway?
Mom: I'm trying to hit this ball into that hole.
Boy: Why are you trying to hit a ball into a hole? What for?
Mom: What for? Well, no reason in particular. It's just a game.
Boy: A game?
Mom: Yes, something you do for fun. You play games just for fun.
Boy: Oh.
Mom: Ooh!
Boy: Why do you keep missing the hole?
Mom: Well, golf is difficult. That's why it's fun.

Why do you hit the ball again and again and it never goes in the hole.

In golf, the aim is to hit a ball so it falls into a small hole in the center of the green. It is a notoriously difficult and frustrating game.

"Keep missing" is pretty simple. This is a special use of "keep", often "keep on", but it is not at all rare or unusual. Still, I did not find it in the first dictionary I looked at.

"v.intr. 2. To continue to do: keep on talking; keep guessing." ( https://www.ahdictionary.com/word/search.html?q=keep )

"Why do you keep missing the hole?" means "Why do you repeatedly miss the hole?"
