Why do people touch their Adam's apple while swearing/promising?
1 2
Hi,

I've never seen people doing that. Do you see it a lot?

Best wishes, Clive
Isn't it rather your heart you put your hand on when you swear or promise? What I've seen, though, is people scratching their Adam's apple when they are thinking.

It must be a cultural thing. It's certainly not done here...
Hi,

A prominent Adam's apple is considered to be a male attribute. Women are even said not to have one, although inside their throat they do.

So, what do women touch when they swear/promise?

Best wishes, Clive
I have seen this in a lot of movies but I couldn't recall names of any. I don't exactly know if they touch their Adam's apple or just get a hold of skin under the chin.

In some cultures, people form a cross with their thumb and index finger and kiss it to swear (on the Cross?). This might be blasphemy, though -- if it is done to swear, I mean.

I'm curious about that one, too!
I'm repeating it again that I don't exactly know if they touch their Adam's apple or just get a hold of skin under the chin.
