The chart below shows the amount of oil produced and consumed in China between 1982 and 2006.
The line graph shows China’s oil consumption and production from 1982 to 2006.
Despite being slightly lower in 1982, thanks to an upward trend in amount, the oil consumption surpassed the production by the end of the period. There were times that these two were closed in value and even overlapped, but in 2006, the gap between them turned out to be quite significant.
Specifically, in 1982, there were 2 million barrels of oil produced and a slightly lower amount consumed per day. In the next four years, both of these amounts increased but at different speeds. From that point, China’s oil production showed little changes then somewhat rose in 1994. On the other hand, during the same period, this country’s consumption leveled up noticeably.
As for the following 12 years, the amount of oil produced went up steadily and ended at around 3.5 million barrels. Meanwhile, the consumed amount grew impressively at an average of about 0.23 million each year. By 2006, this value stood at 6.2 million, over 1.7 times more than that of production.
